FAQs
What’s up with the name “Legally Calm”?
The idea of Legally Calm came from the movie Legally Blond. If you’ve seen the movie, you know that it’s the story of a woman learning her own power and strength. My style of coaching focuses on cultivating your strength and building long-lasting confidence from the inside out. I also incorporate teaching on how societal norms and expectations of women play into our limiting beliefs about ourselves, and we work on changing those in order to empower you.
Why should I hire you?
Simply put, I can help you feel better about your work and your life - more in control, empowered, and excited about your future.
I am dual-certified through The Life Coach School (“LCS”) and the Neuroleadership Institute (“NLI”). My training from LCS enables me to get to the cause of the issues you see popping up in your life, and together we work to transform your thoughts around those issues, which brings about long-lasting change.
My training from NLI enables me to teach you about how your brain works and why it does some of the things it does. With understanding, comes power. My NLI training also makes me an expert in habit formation, feedback, and accountability.
My two trainings work beautifully together to provide long-lasting change at the thought-level, and to provide accountability at the action-level, so that you get the results you want most in .
Will you tell me what to do?
I believe in the ability of my clients to shape their futures in any way they choose. I will not tell you what to do because I truly believe that you - the client - have the best answers. If you want my input, I will occasionally provide it, but we always look to the answers within you first.
I help you access your own wisdom by working with you to examine your mind and to uncover any blind spots. I check in with you in order to hold you accountable for pursuing your dreams but I’ll never force you to do anything.
What’s your coaching style?
My sole focus is on you and helping you get the results you want as quickly as possible. In order to get there, we need to have an honest, open relationship. Therefore, I don’t sugarcoat things. I have a very straightforward method and manner of coaching. My goal is to expose your mind to you, and to show you why you’re creating certain results in your life that you don’t want to create. To do this, I have to be honest with you. I always, always want the absolute best for my clients, and honesty is how I get there.
Are you a career coach or a life coach?
I am both. I help my clients with setting and accomplishing career-related goals, communication, receiving and giving feedback, building interviewing and networking skills, and also more life-coaching related issues like setting boundaries in personal relationships, strengthening their relationships with themselves, and accomplishing goals outside of work. But career and life-coaching are always inter-related.
What’s the difference between coaching and therapy?
Therapy focuses on validating your feelings. Coaching asks, what was the thought that caused that feeling, and do you want to keep it? Coaching teaches you that you don’t have to believe all of your thoughts and helps you make a habit of thinking thoughts that serve you. Therapy examines your past, while coaching helps you look at your past in a way that serves you, but also focusses more on creating the future that you want. Therapy takes you from non-functional to functional. Coaching takes you from functional to thriving.
In addition to the hour-long session itself, what services come with your coaching?
In addition to the one hour session, when you coach with me, I’ll be available to you via text message in between sessions for any coaching issues that come up. I also frequently provide “homework” or actions in between sessions, but that is always a joint decision.
Does it matter where I live?
No, all of my coaching sessions are done virtually, via Zoom, so it doesn’t matter where you live.
Is what I tell you during coaching sessions confidential?
Yes, whatever you tell me during coaching sessions is completely confidential. Even the fact that you’re a client is confidential. There is no legal privilege between the coach and the client, but unless I am compelled by a court to provide testimony about our sessions, they will always be completely confidential.
